Mysterious Assemblages Eva Eun Sil Han inspiration

Layering materials hides the original identity of photographs, transforming them into these mysterious, collaged assemblages. Flashes of colour, from found papers, add depth and contrast  in the bold monochromatic mood of the collection. Layers and repetition of shape create an inherent sense of pattern and control – as well as adding a 3D element to a flat image. The recurring circular form has become a signature of Eva Eun-Sil Han – find more of these intriguing pieces at evahan.weebly.com

With the London 2012 Olympics in full swing, the Patternbank team thought we’d enter into the sporting action with a graphically sporty highlight. We’ve been tracking Greek based visual artist Charis Tsevis for some time now. His work focuses on fractured graphic pattern, and the 2012 Olympics is no better place to find a great variaty of shapes and visual movement. These amazing artworks have been recently created by Tsevis for Yahoo’s Olympic 2012 coverage.

Fred Friedrich Silhouettes Emerge As If From Rorschach Test Inkblots inspiration

Fred Friedrich’s paintings display such a bold, abstract style which immediately captures your attention. Patternbank love the way he uses paint in great quantities dripping down the canvas in thick streaks. The works emerge from a kind of controlled randomness that Friedrich achieves by an immensely effective layering effect that at times approaches figuration. Faces and silhouettes begin to emerge as if from Rorschach test inkblots. Friedrich was born in Berlin in 1943 and is a painter, sculptor and German architect whose works of art are linked to Neoexpressionism and Abstract expressionism.

Visual Mantras Ana Montiel print pattern

These colourful, illustrative patterns are the work of Spanish visual artist Ana Montiel. Through her ongoing project ‘Visual Mantras’, Montiel explores pattern through repetitive drawing, reflection and mirroring. Geometrics and florals are delicately juxtaposed creating complex, intricate kaleidoscopic patterns. Hand drawn aesthetics are accentuated through the use of soft colour pencils and watercolours. A mixture of delicate pastels and rich primary brights, create a gorgeous summer colour palette which is full of energy. As well as textile patterns Ana Montiel also explores illustration, typography and graphics. See more of her work, and the ‘Visual Mantras’ series, at anamontiel.com
