Layered Silhouettes Tom Gallant inspiration

London based artist Tom Gallant uses his mastery in the traditional Japanese paper crafts or Kiri-gami and Origami, to create these fascinating images. After studying in graphic design, Gallant continued his education in fine art at Camberwell School of art, and gaining a fellowship at The Royal Academy Schools. Using pages from pornographic magazines, Gallant explores our fascination with pornography and the division of the sexes in the late 19 century. These images are hidden within his feathery depictions of wildlife and pattern. A selection of his work is currently being exhibited alongside 31 other paper cutting artists in ‘The First Cut’, at Manchester Art Gallery until 27th Jan 2013.
