Ann ten Donkelaar Intricate Fairytale Gardens inspiration

Detail and delicacy are the qualities which stand out in artist Ann ten Donkelaar’s intricate relief work. Donkelaar lives and works in Utrecht, Netherlands where she gathers small pieces of nature. Broken butterflies, flowers and weeds are collected from her garden, “What I enjoy the most about being creative is the collecting of the materials and creating the composition.
I like working with flowers and insects because they are so small and complicated elements. I just fascinated from there forms and colors.”
these are then collaged together with cut out images of flowers an displayed in relief to form intricate almost fairytale gardens. See more from her collection on her website.

Contemporary Figure Paintings Erik Jones inspiration

These amazing traditionally worked illustrations are the creations of Brooklyn based artist Erik Jones aka ‘The Iris On’. His painted portraits are brought to life with unexpected abstract elements and geometric configurations. Preferring to by-pass digital means, Jones has a more old school approach and works with coloured pencil, water colour, acrylic and oils to create each piece. Patternbank love his vibrant colour plays and beautifully studied detail in these original looking illustrations.

Melanie Authier Improbable Environments inspiration

Melanie Authier’s paintings bring together visual contradictions into one imaginary space. By drawing upon the histories of abstraction and the strategies of representation, she presents improbable environments. A sense of disorientation comes about through the way in which colour, texture, line and shape compete for room within the canvas. Each work presents a brimming jostle of oppositions that the viewer is invited to bring into a certain order. Check out more of her stunning work on her website.

Antonio Marras Pre Fall 2013 Collection catwalks

Patternbank are big fans of Antonio Marras who always delivers when it comes to print, pattern and a love of fabrics, embroidery and embellishment. This Pre Fall 2013 collection didn’t fail to delight with beautifully executed floral prints mixed with geometric and paisley patterns. Exquisite jacquard coats and knitwear featured textured pattern and small tie motifs. It’s not surprising then that Marras was previously artistic director at Kenzo where mixing inspirations, costume, textiles and contemporary art goes hand in hand. Susan Chrysler White Powerful Pattern and Form inspiration

Patternbank love these paintings by Iowa artist Susan Chrysler White. Susan experiments with a variety of techniques, printing and pouring paint to create intense layers and depth in her paintings. Explorations in the bilateral Roscharch-like image and organic inspired figures can be found hidden within decorative elements of her work. The result is real vibrancy and powerful plays with pattern and form, mixing elements of sculpture and movement. Check out more of her work and incredible 3D-like chandeliers at susanchryslerwhite.com

Xochi Solis Molecular Collage inspiration

Wonderful mixed-media collage here by Austin, Texas based artist Xochi Solis. In addition to her studio practice, she is also the Director of Events and Public Programming at the Visual Arts Center, University of Texas at Austin. We love the way she builds up the different elements of mixed-media, one on top of each other to resemble some sort of layered molecular structure. Find more of her captivating work on her website.
