Jill Lewis Mythical Creatures inspiration

Australian artist Jill Lewis creates these dream-like pictorial moments on her canvas with layers of pattern and colour, transforming us to another world. Lewis’s primitive yet extraordinarily sophisticated notions of everyday life are like playful poetic tapestries featuring mythological animals and fanciful objects. A painterly and spontaneous mark-making technique of rich earthy hues and gelato colour bombs, emphasise the personal metaphors and private moments underlying her stories. You can see more of her fantastical cast of bazaar creatures and characters at libbyedwardsgallieries.com

Giles Deacon A/W 2012 Macabre Romanticism catwalks

The dark tale of a damson fleeing from a burning country mansion was how Giles Deacon described his idea for his A/W collection. The prints told the story of bejewelled burnished tapestries of Renaissance Art, frosted thistles with roses caught and a tangle of thorns and branches. There was a Victorian feel to them, rather prim and proper but lurking underneath something more bewitching. Images via fashionising.com
