Edinburgh and Spain became her home during her time studying with a year spent at the Illustration Academy in Florida to top it off. Heather Patterson Geographic Patterns in the Natural World inspiration

Heather Patterson is interested in the imperfections in nature and how perfection can be found in discoveries of certain undisturbed randomness. By recreating geographic patterns and forms, her work finds simillarities with a topographical map and a grain of wood or the gnarls in a tree and veins in the human body. Patternbank love the structure and layering of different textures that can be found in her work, by such techniques as carving, dripping, melting or spraying the surface. You can see more of her work at heatherpatterson.30art.com.

Jeffrey Simmons Stylised Galaxies inspiration

Jeffrey Simmons takes inspiration from astronomical imagery similar to that produced by the Hubble Space Telescope. ”The gridded paintings were directly derived from comparative illustrations common to many astronomical textbooks, while the more random-seeing arrangements of circular patterns were intended to be evocative of wide astronomical surveys such as the well-known Hubble Deep Field.” Patternbank love the almost stained glass appearance where light and colour appears to glow behind a texture of intense dark paint.
