Bernard Frize The Brush Paints inspiration

Patternbank loves Bernard Frize’s exaggerated brushstroke paintings for colour depth and pattern structure inspiration. Frize who was born in Saint-Mandé, France in 1949, now lives and works in Paris and Berlin. Frize’s work is always abstract and is concerned not with personal expression but with the actual process of making the work. He is fond of saying ‘the brush paints’. Techniques include the use of several brushes tied together. In certain works in which multicoloured brushstrokes interweave like woven threads. Samantha Keely Smith Inner Worlds inspiration

Samantha Kelly Smith’s skill in colour can be seen in these beautiful paintings, where she strives to represent both hostile and natural worlds together. Sarah Walker Information Overload inspiration

Sarah Walker’s acrylic works on paper and panel are a complex mix of abstract shapes, organic patterns and intricate geometric structures. Walker is interested in how we scan and process information overload nowadays. Her lattice-like structures suggest blood vessels or crystals and rocks. In her words “I intend my paintings to operate as tools for perceptual recalibration. In them conditions exist for the viewer to process several systems at once. Patterns and diagrams found within the sciences, nature and architecture form the basis of imagery.” Walker lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. See more of her work at sarahwalker.org

Mathew Zefeldt Insanely Surreal inspiration

Loving these utterly surreal large scale paintings by Mathew Zefeldt. They almost grate the eyes with their rainbow compositions, abstract symbolism and intense patterns and textures. Mathew says “My work addresses the multiple visual languages of painting and brings them together in one plane, creating an overlay of styles and gestures that echo the fragmented, heterogeneous nature of contemporary reality.’ Check out more over at his Website.

Klaus Merkel Brushstroke Brilliance inspiration

German artist Klaus Merkel is known for his outstanding paintings and deservedly so, with their uncompromising scale and bold sweeping brush marks they investigate the conceptual tasks of painting. Patternbank love the bold colour combinations, abstract shapes with blocks of colour against textured brush marks and grid formations. Klaus Merkel was born in Heidelberg (DE) in 1953 and lives and works in Freiburg (DE). You can see more of his work at merkel-atelier.de

Harold Hollingsworth Textural Graphic Abstract Beauty graphics

Patternbank are loving the way Harold Hollingsworth re-interprets vintage lettering and embellishments into beautiful layered large scale mixed media paintings. They contain a great deal of texture and depth with the beautiful hand painted vintage lettering dissected and then overlaid on to canvas and panels. For more of Harold’s work check out his website.
