Contemporary Figure Paintings Erik Jones inspiration

These amazing traditionally worked illustrations are the creations of Brooklyn based artist Erik Jones aka ‘The Iris On’. His painted portraits are brought to life with unexpected abstract elements and geometric configurations. Preferring to by-pass digital means, Jones has a more old school approach and works with coloured pencil, water colour, acrylic and oils to create each piece. Patternbank love his vibrant colour plays and beautifully studied detail in these original looking illustrations.

Melanie Authier Improbable Environments inspiration

Melanie Authier’s paintings bring together visual contradictions into one imaginary space. By drawing upon the histories of abstraction and the strategies of representation, she presents improbable environments. A sense of disorientation comes about through the way in which colour, texture, line and shape compete for room within the canvas. Each work presents a brimming jostle of oppositions that the viewer is invited to bring into a certain order. Check out more of her stunning work on her website.

Estela A. Cuadro A Fantasy Wonderland Of Illustration print pattern inspiration

Argentinian artist and illustrator Estela A. Cuadro allows her love of music to help her become introspective and find inspiration from within.Estella feels it nourishes her imagination and motivates creativity. Drawing became an important part of her life as young as five, and her parents encouraged her to take influence from other painters and artists. After graduating from a graphic design course at the University of Buenos Aires, Estela took up illustration professionally. Her mentor Silvia Mato has helped her to discover a sensual side of her creativity and how to develop an energy within her work. Patternbank love Estela’s use of colour bleeding and sweeping lines which create movement and character. To see Estella’s extensive portfolio of art and publications visit her website.

Wonderful mixed-media collage here by Austin, Texas based artist Xochi Solis.
