The African Queens Namsa Leuba inspiration

Patternbank are loving these photographs by Swiss based photographer Namsa Leuba for New York Magazine’s ‘The Cut’ for a knitwear feature. She was born to a Guinean mother and an Helvetian father. In 2011, she graduated from ECAL/University of art and design Lausanne, obtaining a BA in photography. It’s good to see something that looks new, fresh and edgy with amazing make-up and sets that include chipboard, marble textures and sprayed foliage. Check out the original article here or check out Namsa’s website here for more inspiring photo shoots.

Wonder Science Klari Reis inspiration

San Francisco-based artist Klari Reis is creating a new Petri dish painting every day in 2013 for her Daily Dish project. Klari uses the creative process of both painting and science in this mesmerising project. Patternbank love the unnatural but beautiful textures, shapes and random pattern Reis is creating in this optical exploration. See more of her Petri dish art here.

Becky Blair Layers, Line and Texture inspiration

Becky Blair’s beautiful artwork was featured in Patternbank’s recent post covering ‘Bristol Affordable Art Fair 2013.’ Surprisingly none of her paintings are planned out, her layers of under-painting provide the groundwork for her landscapes and creatures or figures to appear. Her imagery evolves from a complex layering of glazes, texture, drawing and printing. She allows this to create the spaces for her painting to take shape. Patternbank loves the balance of space and detail in her work and her skillful use of colour combinations. Take a peek at her full archive on her website.

C Maxwell Morris Modern Psychedelic Marbling inspiration

Love the technique C Maxwell Morris is using on these paintings, many of them are created by placing glass over the original acrylic on canvas. From this multiple artworks are created that each have an interesting quality of their own that look like modern psychedelic marbling . He has a great sense for colour and minimal composition. He is currently studying for his BFA at the University of North Texas. For more of these incredible paintings check out his website here.

Hollis Brown Thornton Memories inspiration

Dealing with themes of memory and change, Thornton uses family photos, pop culture, world events, and outdated media to illustrate the modern relevance of these past objects and events. The use of erasure and fragmentation represent memory’s imperfections. Pixelation and computer manipulation represent the physical world merging with the digital, as the digital world is one of contemporary society’s recent cultural evolutions. The marker drawings represent the accumulation of things that were once valid but have lost their original importance. The drawings represent the paradox of what to do with things that were once meaningful yet no longer serve the same purpose. Check more on his website or Flickr.
