Gus Leunig His World inspiration

Gus Leunig is a Melbourne artist and musician and a talent to watch. His “My Life is a Dog” series was a sell-out at Art Sydney 2009 and in 2010 he had his first solo exhibition at Libby Edwards Galleries, Melbourne. In 2004, Leunig spent time living with his artist-father Michael Leunig in a small aboriginal community, Lockhart River. Here he worked alongside Aboriginal artists in the local Arts Centre, where his love for the territory and it’s people, gave him the passion to paint. Leunig’s most recent exhibition at the Libby Edwards Galleries featured works layered with intense colour and detail, inspired by nature, animals, his newborn son and his beloved dog Desmond. Takahiro Kimura Human Spirit inspiration

Takahiro Kimura collages are unique portrayals of the fragility of the human soul. Through colour, pattern, texture and a certain amount of distortion his subjects come to life showing the complicated nature of the human spirit. Kimura’s collages are made by cutting up photos which are then rearranged and worked into with intense colour and detail. Patternbank loved looking through his variety of work at faceful.jp

Ikenaga Yasunari The Japanese Art of Nihonga Redefined inspiration

Using the simplicity of indian ink and linen canvas Ikenaga Yasunari has captured a simple serenity in the the faces of his female portraits. This calm sensuality is highlighted by the richness of their surroundings. Yasunari’s Japanese heritage has inspired a style of painting which is characteristic in his work. This ancient technique of Nihonga is a traditional Japanese artform using a Menso brush and ink. With this Yasunari has successfully captured an essence of the past with a pallet of muted tones , but  has injecting a modern twist to each piece with his use of pattern and cloth.
