These quirky, oddball illustrations are the work of Netherlands based art studio Patswerk. Situated in The Hague, Patswerk was founded in 2008 by long time friends Ramon Avelino, Rogier Mulder and Lex van Tol. The studio collective use playful, surreal, complex compositions that mix an array of everyday objects in fresh colourful statements. See more of their unique and fun work at the recently updated website patswerk.nl.
This collection of Graphic Collages by Sarah Mazzetti caught our eye this week. The Bologna based artist who’s better known for her bold and vibrant poster designs, was trained in Communication (Bachelors Degree) at Bologna University and in Illustration at IED Milan. She’s been freelance since 2009 and has collaborated with magazines such as GQ Italy and L’Europeo. Mazzetti has since joined forces with Guilia Sagramola and Cristina Dizioni to form Tiara, an illustration and comics label with an enviable list of clients, including the creatively inspiring magazine Anorak. Patternbank loves her energetic collage style and the hand drawn quality of her graphics, see her full range of posters and art at her website.
Tokyo born artist, graphic designer and illustrator Natsuki Otani has the ability to combine a rainbow of vibrant colour, with a sophisticated illustrative style to create these stunning images. Her Fashion Illustration for A/W 2012 featured in Station Magazine (images featured) depicting designs from Mary Katranzou, Peter Pilloto and Prada have a simple, inky fluidity which is, unmistakably her signature style. Patternbank loves the strong sense of pattern throughout her work and her sensitivity to detail and proportion. Check out her list of talents and achievements at her website.
Agata Dudek graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 2010 and has already completed a wide range of stunning design projects including Magazine Illustration, Posters, Book Covers, Street Art and Toy Design. Loving the simple block colours and stencil effect of these pieces. For more of her creative output check her Behance page.
Successful Animator, Illustrator and Textile designer Monika Forsberg has caught the eye of Patternbank this week. Originally from Lulea in northern Sweden, Monika moved to London to study at Camberwell School of Art and went on to gain a BA (hons) in Illustration at the University of Westminster and an MA (RCA) in Animation at the Royal College of Art. Patternbank were particularly attracted to her designs in coloured pen and her pattern rich illustrations, we love the naive quality of her pen work and the way her images take the eye on a journey, through a fantasy land of pattern and form. Monika’s website is currently being overhauled but if you want to see more, her latest project is an Animated Short for Channel 4, as part of their ‘Random Acts’, to be screened in April.
Patternbank loves the awe-inspiring street art by Greek illustrator and artist Alexandros Vasmoulakis. We were drawn to his fresh contemporary take on street art. Graffiti was the foundation for his progression into painting, and after studying at the Athens School of Fine Arts, Vasmoulakis worked as an illustrator with advertising companies producing ad murals. See more of Alexandros abstract wall murals on his portfolio site vasmou.com
