Mysterious Assemblages Eva Eun Sil Han inspiration

Layering materials hides the original identity of photographs, transforming them into these mysterious, collaged assemblages. Flashes of colour, from found papers, add depth and contrast  in the bold monochromatic mood of the collection. Layers and repetition of shape create an inherent sense of pattern and control – as well as adding a 3D element to a flat image. The recurring circular form has become a signature of Eva Eun-Sil Han – find more of these intriguing pieces at evahan.weebly.com

Visual Mantras Ana Montiel print pattern

These colourful, illustrative patterns are the work of Spanish visual artist Ana Montiel. Through her ongoing project ‘Visual Mantras’, Montiel explores pattern through repetitive drawing, reflection and mirroring. Geometrics and florals are delicately juxtaposed creating complex, intricate kaleidoscopic patterns. Hand drawn aesthetics are accentuated through the use of soft colour pencils and watercolours. A mixture of delicate pastels and rich primary brights, create a gorgeous summer colour palette which is full of energy. As well as textile patterns Ana Montiel also explores illustration, typography and graphics. See more of her work, and the ‘Visual Mantras’ series, at anamontiel.com

Jimmy Turrell Fresh Retro Illustration graphics

Loving the work of London-based Illustrator Jimmy Turrell – he studied Graphic Design rather than Illustration at Central St. Martins. He uses a mixture of hand-made collage, drawing, screenprinting and painting alongside digital techniques which gives his work a uniquely retro feel, yet still feeling very modern, clean and fresh. It’s not only us that like him, he’s worked for some great clients such as Nike, Universal Music, Levis, MTV, Conde Nast and Sony Music to name but a few. Check more of his work at jimmyturrell.com

Max Colby Printmaking, Embroidery and Sculptural Skins inspiration

Max Colby is a mixed-media artist currently working in Boston, MA. He is a self-taught tailor and fibers artist with a formal background in printmaking and papermaking. By utilizing extravagant embellishments and applications in conjunction with fragile and dwindling figures both ephemeral (print) and physical (sculptural), the stress of Max’s work is placed on external manifestations of identity construction as a highly performative act. In 2012, Max received a BFA with a concentration in printmaking and papermaking from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Surreal Collage Compositions Beth Hoeckel inspiration

After visiting the recent Bread & Butter show in Berlin, the Patternbank team saw that photographic prints are still featuring strong for Spring/Summer 2013 graphics. Colourful, surreal prints are still a main focus for many brands for next summer. With this in mind we thought we’d share these imaginary photo collage prints from Beth Hoeckel. Mixing realist and surrealist Hoeckel’s work plays with the juxtaposition between foreground and background objects. Baltimore based Hoeckel is a collage artist and photographer who loves the control of real paper, ink and adhesive.
