Psychedelic Tropical Safari – Basement Jaxx

If you’re looking for more print trend inspiration for Spring/Summer 2014, look no further than Basement Jaxx’s new video by Big Active’s Mat Maitland. This Psychedelic visual safari takes you on a real journey through some of the key prints themes coming through for S/S14. The promo, co-directed with Natalia Stuyk, features Mat Maitland’s signature collage style along with specially made items by French hair stylist / fashion designer Charlie Le Mindu and make-up artist Isamaya Ffrench. Luís Alves – Patterns with Soul

Patternbank love the intense mixing of patterns going on in Luis Alves fabulous illustrations. Alves is a illustrator and graphic designer based in Lisbon, Portugal and from his work you can see how he loves to mix patterns from vintage tiles and textiles to create something new and modern. Alves uses a mixture of digital and marker based techniques in his work combining a love of soul and funk which can be found in commissioned posters on behance/UrbanMyth.net and his Flickr page.

Megan Greene – Distorted Botanical

Megan Greene transforms nature prints of paintings by John James Audubon, a nineteenth-century artist known for his realistic yet highly theatrical depictions of “Birds of America”. Greene uses coloured pencils and collage elements to transform and alter the original scenes, sometimes turning them on their heads or sideways. Patternbank love the way birds, flora and fauna become camouflaged within elaborate and decorative patterns creating a distorted view of these beautiful images. Billy Kidd – Beautiful Decay

These beautiful set of photographs of decaying orchids, roses and leaves were shot by Billy Kidd, an extremely talented photographer based in New York. Usually confined to the bin at this stage of their life, Billy captures the immense beauty, faded colours, wrinkles and fine details of the decaying flowers and foliage on a black background which adds to the subtle drama.
