Sean Alexander Drawingzzz inspiration

Sean Alexander is an artist and illustrator based in Tacoma, Washington but also spends time in Brooklyn, New York. Influenced by traditions in children’s book illustration, American folk art, cartooning and Scandinavian handicraft, his work has a simple humble line but with drawings full of meaning and feelings. The curious characters that emerge from such detailed patterns, hidden folk tales and Sean’s own life are curiously captivating. See more of Sean’s drawings at seanalexander.net and on flickr.

FRGMNTS Lost Cultures, Relics and Landscapes by Matthew Craven inspiration

Matthew Craven uses historical images as a backdrop for a more abstract form of storytelling. Images from lost cultures, relics and landscapes, both well-known and extremely ambiguous create the patterns within his work. These arrangements highlight shape and composition rather than historical accuracy, solidifying their participation in a completely unique myth. Check more of his fine work on his website. Earlier this year, FRGMNTS was shown at Gallery Hijinks in San Francisco, go check their website for lots more inspiring Artists.

Eva Isaksen Nature in Layers inspiration

Inspired by nature, organic forms and repetition, Eva Isaksen primarly works with thin papers, where she prints, draws, cuts up and mixes layers of beautiful delicate imagery on to her canvas. The result is these wonderful paintings and drawings that explore a love of colour, line, material, space and form. Isaksen likes to explore how art as a process is changing and growing just like the natural world that inspires her. Patternbank love the printed quality to her work and the hidden patterns that emerge on to the canvas. You can see more of her work at evaisaksen.com

Jon Contino Hand Drawn Lettering and Vintage Typographic Perfection graphics

Patternbank have a major crush on Contino’s work and not surprisingly, he has garnered considerable attention for his unique approach to design utilising hand-drawn lettering and typographic illustration in conjunction with a modern, yet minimalistic sensibility. He has received numerous accolades for his fusion of old and new world aesthetics and continues to influence modern trends in graphic design and apparel design. Jon resides in Brooklyn with his wife Erin where he works not only as a freelance illustrator, but also as Co-Founder and Creative Director of menswear brand CXXVI Clothing Company (see our post on their Spring 2012 T Shirt Collection). The Great Discontent have just done a great post on him which you can read here or check out his website for more inspiring work.
