Chris Dorosz Staple Paintings inspiration

Chris Dorosz takes thousands of staples and arranges them onto a blank canvas pouring paint into each compartment, the result is a picture formed of pixellated pattern and colour. To appreciate fully the viewer needs to stand back to see the figures that begin to emerge. Patience and precision must be Dorosz’s thing when you see the intricate sculptures and installations he creates. Drops of paint are trapped within clear plastic rods and suspended on fine pieces of filament, the effect is quite something. Chris Dorosz is from San Franscisco, CA and graduated with an MFA from the Nova Scotia School of Art and Design. You can see more of his cool installations at chrisdorosz.com.

Magda Sayeg Yarn Bombing inspiration

Magda Sayeg’s been knitting since she was small and in 2005 she founded Knitta, a collective of Yarn Bombers who took to transforming urban spaces with wooly grafitti. Since her first knitted door knob, Sayeg has gone on to gain commissions with companies such as Absolute vodka, Smart car and Mini Cooper and has even covered the air con ductwork of Etse’s head office with her multicoloured masterpieces. Patternbank loves the way mundane urban spaces and objects are given a surprising splash of colour, with handmade simplicity transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Monika Forsberg Felt Tip Fantasy Lands print pattern

Successful Animator, Illustrator and Textile designer Monika Forsberg has caught the eye of Patternbank this week. Originally from Lulea in northern Sweden, Monika moved to London to study at Camberwell School of Art and went on to gain a BA (hons) in Illustration at the University of Westminster and an MA (RCA) in Animation at the Royal College of Art. Patternbank were particularly attracted to her designs in coloured pen and her pattern rich illustrations, we love the naive quality of her pen work and the way her images take the eye on a journey, through a fantasy land of pattern and form. Monika’s website is currently being overhauled but if you want to see more, her latest project is an Animated Short for Channel 4, as part of their ‘Random Acts’, to be screened in April.

Cartography Portraits Ed Fairburn graphics

Patternbank have spotted Ed Fairburn’s amazing map based portraits on a handful of inspirational blogs recently and thought we’d share. Based in Cardiff, illustrator Ed Fairburn creates portraits using old vintage maps to bring his unique artworks to life. He explains ‘ I paint, draw and construct using a flexible range of tangible media across a wide range of surfaces and contexts, allowing my practice to exist across various disciplines.’ Patternbank love the way Ed’s illustrations transpire from intricate road networks and structured landscapes.
