Fredrik Åkum Sun Drenched inspiration

Patternbank love these paintings by Swedish artist Fredrik Åkum who uses instant polaroid snaps to capture his subject. Åkum translates this imagery using acrylic on to MDF. The result is of blossoms, trees and portraits sun drenched in an almost luminous light, quite beautiful. Check out more of his work at fredrikakum.com

Daniel Brown Digital Floral Art inspiration

Daniel Brown is a highly talented designer, programmer and artist, who has worked for an impressive client list including Selfridges & Co, Le Printemps Paris, Mulberry, Victoria & Albert Museum, Conran Architects, Nick Knight Studio, Sony and Dazed and Confused. Part of Brown’s work is in generative animation where patterns grow, develop and mutate within a set of programmed rules. In an exhibition at the V&A called Decode, Brown was commissioned to create a three-story high generative flower work. The petals of the flowers are generated textures derived from works from the museum archive including William Morris textiles and Kimono fabrics. You can see more of Daniel Brown’s highly creative work at danielbrowns.com and his company play-create.com.

Jill Lewis Mythical Creatures inspiration

Australian artist Jill Lewis creates these dream-like pictorial moments on her canvas with layers of pattern and colour, transforming us to another world. Lewis’s primitive yet extraordinarily sophisticated notions of everyday life are like playful poetic tapestries featuring mythological animals and fanciful objects. A painterly and spontaneous mark-making technique of rich earthy hues and gelato colour bombs, emphasise the personal metaphors and private moments underlying her stories. You can see more of her fantastical cast of bazaar creatures and characters at libbyedwardsgallieries.com

Eva Isaksen Nature in Layers inspiration

Inspired by nature, organic forms and repetition, Eva Isaksen primarly works with thin papers, where she prints, draws, cuts up and mixes layers of beautiful delicate imagery on to her canvas. The result is these wonderful paintings and drawings that explore a love of colour, line, material, space and form. Isaksen likes to explore how art as a process is changing and growing just like the natural world that inspires her. Patternbank love the printed quality to her work and the hidden patterns that emerge on to the canvas. You can see more of her work at evaisaksen.com

Enchanted Creatures Anne Siems inspiration

Anne Siem’s paintings are beautifully haunting with their imagery of naive women with ghostly dresses. The love of early American Folk Art, European masters as well as vintage and modern photography inspire her work which has evolved over the years into some enchanting pieces. Siem’s moved from Berlin, Germany to Seattle in 1991 where her early works were on waxed found paper using pen, ink and acrylic paint. Later she has worked on panels where she can create a more precise quality of painting. Patternbank love all the hidden imagery that can be found within her paintings. Check out more of Siem’s wonderful work at annesiems.com and her current exhibition at wallyworkmangallery.com showing until 24th November 2012.
