Comme Des Garçons The Future is Two Dimensional catwalks

Rei Kawakubo never seizes to amaze and delight in all that she creates. Her A/W collection for 2012 was just that, a visual theatre of models in oversize flat shapes of bold colour and pattern reminiscent of a matisse painting. Solid shapes of colour were like gigantic pieces of fuzzy felt walking down the catwalk. Graphic camouflage was mixed with child like flowers and others with Alice in Wonderland checkerboards. Polka dots also featured which reminded us that Yayoi Kusama at The Tate Modern is going to be another great artist influencing the print world. As Kawakubo nicely puts it “The future is two dimensional.” comme-des-garcons.com Images Vogue.com

Dries Van Noten A/W 2012 Engineered Prints Inspired from Around The World catwalks

Dries Van Notens’ womenswear  A/W 2012 collection was not only a Textile Designers dream but one that showed pieces for everyday wear.
There was structured tailoring in the form of engineered ethnic prints inspired by visits to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. In particular the decorative arts and costumes of the world. Textiles from China, Japan and Korea were photographed then assembled into beautiful collages. Embellishment took form as embroidered birds in flight or dragons on elegant jackets for evening wear or, for those of us who dare, day or night! For some Textile inspiration the Victoria and Albert Museum is certainly somewhere to while away a day or much longer! If London is not on your doorstep then order yourself a copy of ” Dress in Detail From Around The World” by Rosemary Crill, Jennifer Wearden and Verity Wilson here. driesvannoten.be Images Vogue.com
