JonOne Urban Jungle inspiration

Patternbank love the lively and frenzied brushstrokes used in JonOne’s immense canvases. John Perello or JonOne as he is known on the streets of Harlem where he grew up and where graffiti and tags were part of everyday life, now limits his work to canvas. Although JonOne’s work is still on the scale found on the streets of New York. Elements of Jackson Pollock, Jean Dubuffet and Henri Matisse can be seen amidst the colourful urban jungle that make up his style. Check out more of his colourful side of life at jonone.moomfruit.com

Pin Hop June 2013 A Print and Pattern Design Feast on Pinterest print pattern

Midnight Garden by GUKUUKI

Patternbank were excited to see our Première Vision + Indigo – Autumn/Winter 2013/14 Print Trend Report being used as inspiration for the Find New Designers Print and Pattern Pin Hop June 2013 on Pinterest. A Pin Hop is a variation on the Blog Hop idea, but instead of having to trawl through lots of different Blogs you can see everything on one Pinterest board. Brilliant! Over 50 hand picked super talented surface pattern designers submitted original designs to the Pin Hop which started on Saturday June 15th. Check it out here.

The 4 chosen stories were Midnight Garden, Optical Day, Historical Adornment and Urban Metropolis. Each designer picked one theme and created a pattern and 2 – 6 coordinates.

We’ll certainly be keeping an eye on many of these designers for our forthcoming ‘Patternbank Studio’ where we’ll be selling print and pattern designs online. If you would like to be one of the first to appear & sell designs sign up now for the pre-launch application. Please email sell@patternbank.com with 4 – 6 sample designs.

I’m sure you’ll agree that there are some incredible designs by some very talented designers, we’ve picked a few of our favourites here, just click on the images to visit their Blog. We’re looking forward to the next Pin Hop. Thanks to Tina Olsson / FYLLAYTA for oganising the event.

Natasza Niedziolka Pictorial Needlework inspiration

Polish born artist Natasza Niedziolka’s beautiful abstract compositions are made using thread and embroidery on canvas, in a perfect combination of color, shape and texture. Rejecting the traditional guidlines of craft-art, her influences come from Dada artists such as Jean Arp. Niedziolka embraces the Dada movements spontaneous and seemingly irrational methods of artistic creation, to produce her subtle abstract embroideries. See Horton Gallery’s website for a full profile.

Facet 365 Justin Maller inspiration

These beautiful angular formations are just a hand full of visuals from a daily project created by artist Justin Maller. Maller a Australian freelance illustrator and art director  has been creating digital art for over twelve years. Maller explains ‘FACET was born out of a desire to just play and experiment as I did when I first started making art. Over the decade plus I’ve been creating work, I had evolved to a place where I was obsessed with refining my pieces, pouring more and more hours in to them, tweaking and picking and murdering any chance of having any fun.’ Check out more images from Justin’s digital challenge where he explores colour, overlaid structures and amazing angular formations – facet.la

Jennifer Sanchez Textile Inspired print pattern

Jennifer Sanchez is a real favourite of Patternbank so we thought we would share with you again some more of her vibrant work. The technique of layering patterns, stripes and colour is just so perfect to the eye and would look great incorporated in print designs for the fashion market. Sanchez already licenses her work in areas such as fabric, wallpaper and packaging and recently has been inspired by textile designs by Native American Indians and Bauhaus masters Gunta Stölzl and Anni Albers. Check out more of her work at  Jennifersanchez.info and on her Etsy page.

Nike Schröder Urban Threads inspiration

Textile artist, Nike Schröder has a passion for art and particularly an interest in materials which started at an early age. Her embroidered works depict snap shots from her daily life. Schröder‘s customary unfinished threads give texture to the piece and lead the eye giving her work movement and energy. Her latest collaboration is with Selvedge magazine and is featured in issue 52, May/June 2013. See more of her collection on her website, and a selection of pieces are currently being exhibited in Urban Outfitters in Berlin and Hamburg.

Amorphous Forms Jennifer Mehigan inspiration

Jennifer Mehigan is originally from Ireland and now lives in Singapore where she is part of the thriving art scene there. She creatively mixes digital and traditional methods with her signature use of amorphous forms, bold mark-making and colour. There is order in the seemingly random arrangement of shapes and colours which is probably down to her background in graphic design. Check out more of her work on Flickr.
